A leader of a white supremacist group name-checked in Dylann Roof's alleged manifesto has been connected to tens of thousands of dollars in donations to leading GOP presidential candidates

In a story first reported by The Guardian, Earl Holt, leader of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), has donated over $65,000 to GOP candidates including Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Rick Santorum

When reached by the Guardian, a spokesman for Cruz's campaign promised to return all of Holt's donations and a representative for Santorum made a strong denunciation of both Holt and Roof but didn't appear to comment on the donations.
